Demeter Fragrance Library / The unfair head start
The labeled archive starts here.
The first single-note from Demeter Fragrance Library opens for sale — and quietly begins recording, for thirty years and counting, what humans choose, when, and why.
Why this is the moat
The data nobody else can rebuild.
Demeter Fragrance Library has spent thirty years selling single-note fragrances — Rain, Dirt, Tomato, Grass, Salt Air, Funeral Home, Paperback, Sunshine. The list is long and the names are honest. Every bottle sold is a labeled data point: a person looked at a name like Wet Garden and chose it, often gifted it, sometimes returned to it. Across three decades of customer decisions, that becomes a rare labeled olfactory corpus organized around what scent means to humans through memory — not around what smells good versus bad.
The corpus is unreproducible by capital alone. A new entrant cannot buy thirty years of customer choice. They cannot buy the trust to ship into homes. They cannot buy the commercial vocabulary that calls a smell Funeral Home and ships it anyway. Demeter Fragrance Library built this when the industry called it a novelty. The industry was wrong.
Demeter Fragrance Library is the execution rail. Scentient is the computation layer. Demeter Fragrance Library is the trust layer that makes physical fulfillment possible. Demeter Fragrance Library is the commercial scent vocabulary that gives the model words. Demeter Fragrance Library is the labeled archive that solves the cold start before we begin.
This is not Scentient's perfume brand. This is the head start that lets Scentient ship a category before anyone else realizes the category exists.
The division
Two companies. One loop.
Scentient / Computation
Memory capture.
Authored description in, structured signal out. The capture surface for affective memory.
Atmosphere computation.
Six dimensions, four coordinates, one vector. The unit of compute.
Render direction.
Library-aware recipes, with confidence scores. The render is direction, not prescription.
Demeter Fragrance Library / Fulfillment
The library.
Thirty years of named single-note fragrances. The commercial scent vocabulary.
The labeled archive.
Three decades of customer choice as ground truth. The cold-start data that already exists.
The physical rail.
Manufacturing, packaging, customer trust, returns. The infrastructure to land an atom.
The head start no capital can buy.
